The National Charity League, Ventura County Chapter Juniors (NCLVCJ) is proud to have played a pivotal role in establishing The Ronald McDonald House Charities Family Room (RMHCFR) located at Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) as part of the hospital re-purposing and renovation. This RMHCFR project serves to assist with the psychological, social, emotional care of our pediatric patient families facilitating the Pediatrics Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and the Children’s Cancer and Blood Diseases (CCBD) Program at VCMC. The RMH Family Room opened in the spring of 2022 and has been instrumental in keeping families connected to the community while kids receive life-saving treatments.
When families at VCMC walk into the RMHCFR, they forget they’re in a hospital. RMHCFR is a place to rest and regroup within the hospital, just steps away from their sick child. Research shows that a family’s presence in the hospital helps children heal and cope better. Staying close by allows parents to better communicate with their child’s medical team and improves adherence to complicated treatment plans. This is the continuity of care that NCLVCJ supports for all children receiving care in Ventura County.
